Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA)

NACARA is a form of relief available to citizens of certain countries. If you face deportation, you may be eligible to apply for NACARA. In addition to your country of origin, other requirements may include the filing of an Asylum application or application for Temporary Protected Status, date of entry into the United States and length of continuous residence, and the showing of Good Moral Character and absence of criminal history.

Generally, in order to qualify for NACARA, you must be a citizen of one of the following countries:

  • Nicaragua
  • Guatemala
  • El Salvador
  • Cuba
  • a republic of the former Soviet Union
